ENHANCING RADAR DETECTORS
"Annoying false alarms" is the number one complaint about radar
detectors. Your GPSmirror is the only GPS detector in the world
which offers False Alarm Suppression Technology or F.A.S.T for
short.
Cheetah offer Radar Detector Interfaces and Laser Jammer
Interfaces as optional extras, which allow a wide range of radar
detectors and laser counter measures from various manufacturers
to work wirelessly with your GPSmirror as a fully integrated system.
For the most up-to-date list of compatible radar and laser systems
please visit www.speedcheetah.com
When our interface is plugged into your detector, mobile speed trap
alerts come through the GPSmirror instead. Voice alerts identify the
radar or laser band. Tone alerts ramp up to identify the signal
strength being detected.
False Alarm Suppression - Use the "Audible Alert Speed" section of
the main menu to set a speed threshold, below which detector
alerts are automatically muted. Drive faster and you'll hear the
alerts. Most users set this at 35mph to filter out annoying alerts in
town or in mall car parks when you don't need the detector anyway.
Radar Band Control - Leave your detector on maximum range
settings and use sections 5 to 8 of the main menu to filter our
individual radar bands if they are not used for speed traps in your
area.
City Mute - Your detector's city mute feature reduces its range
against genuine speed traps. Engage the GPSmirror's City Mute
instead by pressing button 4 and voice alerts announce the band
but alert tones are muted.

1. OVERVIEW
The GPSmirror is camera detector that prevents tickets and helps keep you
safe by making you more aware of your speed, your surroundings and
approaching hazards. The wide-angle mirror is designed to help reduce
blindspots by providing a much greater field of vision than factory mirrors.
Please note that objects in the GPSmirror may therefore be closer than
they appear. You should not operate any GPSmirror functions whilst
driving. Have a passenger operate the GPSmirror during this time, or stop
at a convenient location.
Switching on - While searching for satellites, the display shows "GPS."
When satellite lock is achieved, a voice alert confirms "GPS ready" and
your current speed is displayed. The first time you switch it on, a "first fix"
may take up to 20 minutes. This is normal for all GPS devices. Subsequent
lock times will be greatly reduced; normally between 5 seconds and 2
minutes.
GPS Speedo - Factory setting is "miles per hour." SiRF Star III GPS
technology works out where you are every second, so at a constant speed
the GPS speedo is more accurate than your car's own display. During
acceleration and deceleration, the GPS speedo will lag slightly while
position data is being refreshed. To change to kilometers per hour, go to
section 9 in the main menu.
Camera Alerts - Voice alerts and a distance countdown will remind you
as you approach a camera in the database. "Advisory speed limits" are
also announced where they are recorded in the database. These advisory
announcements are for guidance only. It is your responsibility to drive
within speed limits at all times, to always be aware of the prevailing speed
limit including any temporary restrictions and to lower your driving speed to
suit the conditions.
Overspeed Alerts - Choose the speed at which an overspeed reminder
is played using section 2 in the main menu (press button 1 twice.) Use
buttons 2 and 3 to adjust the setting and button 4 to save and exit the
menu. When you exceed your speed setting a voice alert announces
"Attention - Overspeed." To switch off the overspeed alert, store "255."
Storing personal locations - 100 GPS locations can be stored for your
own hazard reminders, using section 3 in the main menu. To store a new
personal location, press button 1 three times then press button 4 to save
and exit. When you next approach this spot from the same direction you
will receive an alert 200 meters in advance of your marked location. The
number of the location (0 to 99) will also be shown on the display. To
remove a stored personal location, simply overwrite it with a new location.
GPS Time Clock - Pressing button 2 displays the current time. Factory
setting is Greenwich Mean Time. Adjust the time zone in section 10 of the
main menu. (GMT = 0, Pacific = -8, Arizona = -7, Eastern = -5.) Press
button 4 to save your time zone.
Rescue Me - A long press of button 3 makes the mirror announce your
exact GPS co-ordinates.
Compass - There is a discreet driving compass next to the main speedo
display which shows your current heading. A short press of button 3 makes
the mirror announce your driving direction.
2. REPORTING NEW CAMERA LOCATIONS /
SPEED LIMITS
If you encounter a new camera or would like to report a speed limit on an
existing camera, you can email the information to
[email protected] or contact us via our website
www.speedcheetah.com
3. UPDATING THE MEMORY
IMPORTANT - Your GPSmirror comes pre-loaded with your country's
locations in its memory so you can use it straight out of the box. We
recommend you update the database at monthly intervals.
Register your GPSmirror at www.register.speedcheetah.com
Before you update your mirror for the first time you must first
install the necessary USB drivers on the supplied CD. Do not
connect the GPSmirror to your PC yet. Insert the CD into your PC's
disc drive. On your PC, navigate to the disc drive e.g. My Computer >
Drive (D:). Then open the folder “USB Drivers” and select your
operating system. Double click the file and follow the on screen
instructions to install the necessary USB driver.
To update your GPSmirror, you need to use our GPS Update
software. This is a small piece of software on the disc, named
GPS0102.exe. We recommend you copy this application from the disc
to a memorable place on your PC so you have easy access for future
updates.
1. Connect your GPSmirror to a PC compatible computer with internet
access using the USB cable supplied.
2. Double click on the GPS0102.exe application and follow the
instructions.
3. The first time you run the GPS0102.exe application, your Anti-virus
software may ask you for permission for this application to access the
internet. You should click “Yes” or “Accept always”.
4. If the GPS Update software does not run, ensure that Microsoft .Net
1.1 is installed on your PC.
Full instructions are contained in section 3 of the User Manual.
* Inside the main
menu these buttons
have other functions.
Button 2 = UP
Button 3 = DOWN
Button 4 = SAVE &
EXIT.
4. INSTALLATION
Spring loaded adjustable clamps fit over almost
all shapes and sizes of rear view mirror. The
internal GPS antenna must overlap the factory
mirror for best performance. This area is
clearly marked by a sticker.
Some vehicles are fitted with Athermic
windscreens (heat reflective glass) which stop all GPS devices
working. Usually car manufacturers leave the area behind the mirror
clear for the placement of electronic toll tags, but if you experience
poor GPS reception you can purchase an extension GPS antenna
with an extra long cable which can receive GPS signals through the
rear windscreen, or externally. These are available from
www.speedcheetah.com or your local dealer.
The power cord should be run along the top of the windscreen, tucked
into the headliner, then down underneath the
passenger door's rubbers, under the glove box and round to the cigar
lighter socket for power. Any excess cable can
easily be hidden underneath the glove box. Care should be taken to
ensure that the power cord does not interfere with the correct
operation of any airbag or other vehicle control or system. If you
intend to swap your GPSmirror between vehicles we strongly
recommend fitting an extra power cord in the second vehicle.
There is a
sliding on/off
switch on the
cigar socket
plug for your
convenience,
and also on
the GPSmirror
itself.
